Just Life

Exhaustion.....Two days of state testing for Princess... long drive to test location.....two other kids at the park a lot. Not bad, just wore us all out 'cause we are so use to staying close to home. Yeah! Testing is our final big thing for the state before we become free birds! Today we did CVS too which was lots of free stuff: 3 Free deodorants, 3 free boxes of allergy meds, three free travel toothpick things that are very interesting and that Trish teased me for getting to which I replied "hey, they're free!", Fancy ladies razor from Venus for a buck, free Purina puppy food!, nail glue that I only got because it was a two buck money maker (maybe I'll be daring and do some dollar store nails just for fun! I always change my mind and pop them off...it's a sign that my life is boring at the time...). Not much to do with all the coupons from the weekend, but lots of free!

I was able to get my own copy of "HEAVEN" today too! So, I'll be back in that soon. I also found Lisa Whelchel's mommy ( I think it's called "Putting the Me back in Mommy") book which I was excited about 'cause I really wanted it when it came out. It was clearanced off for five bucks!
Parenting...
Never label your kids as "this one is..." "that one is...."..... I've learned. Actually I've learned at my age to never say never about anything and yet I break my own rules only to be shamed by being proved wrong each time (I always chock this one up to God having a sense of humor). This week two of mine have been little handfuls and my drama queen has been a delight. She and I just sit in the front seat of the car and look funny at each other while the squabbling takes place in the back. Sometimes I wish I had a party horn I could just turn around and blow real loud to distract them like when they were toddlers. Now I think they would just bicker louder!

Heavens!!!

Housekeeping...

What housekeeping?

Time at the feet of Jesus....

Oh, this is the part I'm longing for the next few days for. We have had to be out the door so early and I've suffered with insomnia and therefore difficulty waking (at least last night and this morning) so, I'm ready for a time of quiet and drinking from the well. The post below was a download on some stuff going on in my heart but prayer has been the only water source so far this week. These busy times are when I realize the importance of hiding His word in my heart because He does bring it up to ponder on in times of desert places.

Jane Eyre in June?

For my local yokels... anybody interested in a coffee house meeting once a week to discuss life and a Jane Eyre read? I've decided that if so many I 'm talking to want to read it, I'd come up with some copies. I know the summer goes fast so if it doesn't work out, I'm not worried. Let me know if any of you are interested. I thought since my sewing streak ended in January, and cooking is limited to budget items instead of freedom for culinary creativity, I'd enjoy a simple literary outlet for a month. I thought it would be fun to end the summer with a mommy movie night at my house of the new MP version.....game?

Superkid and Camping....
My baby turns five on May 15th! Finally I say! Not that I want him to grow up but his eight year old figure deserves more notice than "he's four". You should see the faces when I say that. Now I can say "he's five" and hopefully it won't be quite as shocking. He comes right up to my bosom at near five! Rick and I got cracking up a while back wondering if we would have to say soon pointing up to the air above us "yes, and this is our eight year old son".

On the weekend of his birthday is our church camp out. We have only been camping as a family for one night so this should be interesting! I was not game for two things with young kids: camping and long drives. So, this year we are branching out slowly. We only have a family tent that barely fits us all, so it will be an adventure.
Mom....
My mom is returning from Scott's ranch today. She went down to get conservatorship in his state. They went to the grand canyon. He called us on the way back, he had a lot of fun. He also won a gold medal in Special Olympics this past weekend. Mom got to be there for some of the event. He was sad about dad not being able to be there, and so was my mom, but they had good time together it would seem.

Prayers are appreciated for the next few weeks.

Honey...
Honey is full of political opinions and insights lately. It's okay, really. He likes to stay up on it I'll say that! He and I have been enjoying a few episodes of "psych" online now that we have our laptop and can watch and be cozy.

Laptop....
Laptops can really feed your time management issues. I think we are in a "laptop honeymoon" phase. Hoping to learn to not be so into it as the days go by! We really did need one since it will be our only computer next year. It's like a kid with a new toy though.
School....
I'm going to be detail planing our first two units: Washington State, and Rainforest's. Thank you Lisa for offering some resources via email....so sweet you are! (I love Lisa, she is so thoughtful and graciously helping me... I wish we lived closer!) If any of you have any ideas of ANY kind, I'm all eyes right now (as apposed to ears.....you know?). I'm especially looking for literature or poetry related and maybe websites you know of. Thanks!

Time for Awana! It's sugar night, they are doing a pinata for "Fiesta Night" and an ice cream party for the team that raised the most missionary money. Hope they go to bed!!!!!!!

I am with you on the exhaustion thing. I am going to enjoy a boring day at home tomorrow.

Alicia...how is the homeschooling situation...meaning the state trying to take away the right of non credentialed parents teaching their children at home?

I would like to read Jane Eyre with you, but I'm not sure I can commit to a once a week coffee thing. Movie at the end sounds fun!

When I can't sleep in the middle of the night, I get up and go in another room and have some "quiet time" right then and there. I figure I can't sleep, might as well put the time to good use. Plus when I get sleepy enough to go back to bed I'm refreshed in a different way as well. Hope you get a better night sleep tonight!

you know....it's kinda faded into the woodwork so to speak... dont' hear much about it. Tami R. sent me a hard but truthful admonishment on my trust of God in the area of my kids education. I did a lot of thinking about it and realized that I was not to be filled with fear when I trust God. Another hs mom incouraged me to go ahead with my plans and be excited about it...and again, to trust God. I really want to give unit studies a good year try so we are going for it. Worse case senario, they knock on my door and say I have to put them back into K12.
Christina,
good thoughts... i use to do that more with babies. you know, i think i keep thinking if i lay there i will eventually fall asleep but if i get up someone else will get up (joy of a small abode:). so, i usually do lay there and pray about all sorts of things. thank you for spuring me....love you for that:) Oh, and yeah, on Jane Eyre. We can even just read and then do the movie thing. Let's wait and see who else want's to do it. I know your schedule is different too.

I'd love to do the book/movie group for Jane Eyre. My life will slow down quite a bit in June. Unless, of course, that's when we are packing to move.

Dear Anonymous,
That's great, but...Who are you?

Oops! Just completely forgot to sign my name.

It's Donna.

I don't think we've ever been in a book discussion group together. It'd be great, I think.

Donna,
I would LOVE to have you! I have never been in a book club before (that's what happens when you go from your teen years right into motherhood!) so I'm looking forward to it and you are much more of a pro than me!
